*05-IT’S A BRAND NEW DAY
(Mindy Johnson)

It’s a brand new day
A brand new day
Come to the cross
Lay it all down
And it’s washed away
It’s washed away
It’s a brand new day

No matter how big, no matter how small
He paid with his life, he paid for us all
No matter what we did yesterday
Jesus blood has washed it all away

It’s a brand new day
A brand new day
Come to the cross
Lay it all down
And it’s washed away
It’s washed away
It’s a brand new day

Whatever your struggle, whatever your fight
Give it to God, he’ll make it right
You don't face the darkness alone
He is with you, you're not on your own

It’s a brand new day
A brand new day
Come to the cross
Lay it all down
And it’s washed away
It’s washed away

So far that we cannot touch
Because we know God loves you so very much
With the dawning of the sun and the day’s new light
God’s full of grace and joy and might
It’s a brand new day

It’s a brand new day
A brand new day
Come to the cross
Lay it all down
And it’s washed away
It’s washed away
It’s a brand new day

A brand new day
A brand new day
It’s a brand new day

Behind the Song

Walter, 4 years old at the time was in trouble with my mom.
The next morning he asked if he was still in trouble.

"No, Walter," my mom replied, "today is a brand new day."

Both of my children are very aware that the dawning of the sun and the day's new light brings a fresh start and our blemishes, or mistakes, our shameful falls from the past, from yesterday, are long gone.  Jesus' blood paid for them...all of them...and they no longer exist.

We had a friend from the Nashville Rescue Mission stay with us.
His name was Herb.  Herb was in his early 40s and had lived a life full of drugs.  A recent graduate from the Mission Herb was ready to start his life with a fresh start.  The forgiveness of the past and the fresh start Christ gives us was something he clung to.  It's something that recovering addicts cling to because each day is a new beginning for them.  Each day is its own struggle, its own fight and each morning was very valuable to them.
